About the event
Super Bowl LIX
The Super Bowl is the final game of the US American professional National Football League (NFL) and is usually held on the first Sunday in February. It is one of the largest single sporting events in the world and achieves the highest television ratings in the USA every year. One of the highlights is the half-time break, during which a spectacular show is staged every year and well-known top stars appear on stage. The halftime show at Super Bowl 2024 presented a high-profile programme. Usher performed at the halftime show and brought 4 guests and his most popular hits of the 2000s and 2010s. The game and the festivities taking place beyond are together called Super Bowl Sunday. Over the years this has achieved the status of an unofficial national holiday.
On average, 90 million North Americans watch the Super Bowl, with peaks of up to 140 million. 30 seconds of advertising time during the broadcast sometimes cost $5 million. The commercials are produced at great expense especially for the Super Bowl and have an unusually high value. In 2025 many companies will also use their commercials for political messages. Like the discussions about the game, they are part of the viewers' usual topic of conversation. In 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, with 25-22 in extra time to win the Super Bowl LVIII.
